problem is the Police do zip about it, even when you have footage of incidents it happens so often that they drop cases as they are inundated with so so many. It needs to be a shift of the mindset of the other road users, stop see cyclists as obstacles or hindrances to the progression of traffic. Harsh sentences or bans and on top of that invite the Insurance companies to sponsor a database of drivers who put others at risk, if they deem the driver is a significant risk they either put the insurance up or withdraw the insurance right then and there, imagine the call from the insurance to the policy holder, stating they have been suspended insurance pending a review - car/van/lorry off the road if they drive its criminal matter and prosecuted. It gets the message across - behave or you can't drive it. ~Trooper

I have redesigned half of my borough in tower hamlets to match new and I,probed cycle infrastructure, taking key notes from placed like Denmark and the Netherlands. They match the same scale of the roads width however I haven’t made it a complete 100% accurate scale just to save time and all that. I am currently in the middle of a long battle with tower hamlets council about getting some new cycle routes and infrastructure however whenever I get through to them it’s a new excuse. I was wondering if you had any tips on how to get through to the council about stuff like that

Why is no one wearing a helmet

I moved to London about eight years ago and just in that time the quality of the infrastructure has really improved dramatically. There's still lots of missing links, and it's not going to work for everyone, but when it does work it's so enabling. I'm convinced that cycling is the best way to get around London: it's cheaper than taking the tube, faster than walking, and better exercise than taking the bus.

I don't live in London, but love cycling when I visit. Good luck with the campaign and hope the best outcome for cycling happens!

These are examples of free women doing their lawful business. Why can't they simply ride their bicycles in peace? We become more American/more aggressive in the UK. I have noticed drivers willing to injure or kill, it is insane the behaviour on the roads. I had an Audi driver try to force me off the road and down a railway embankment. I'm disciplined/experienced, so held my line. He later stopped diagonally across the road to stop me about a mile down the road. Trying to get a reaction? I didn't oblige and simply drove on. Everyone deserves to use the road and be treated without violence. It disappoints me UK roads are now a bull pit. Something needs to change. More traffic cops and driver education courses would be a good start.

Every Male Cyclist knows from personal experiance that we cop a lot Drivers too, I have had my share up to having stuff thrown at me from moving Cars, while I feel horrible for the girls copping it its not a gender issue so if they get victim points I want my share too.I Drive I Cycle and I Motorbike so no bias here.

Message to Felicty Buchan MP - your argument is ill thought through. Studies show that well designed bike lanes, do not lead to increased congestion or travel times for drivers. For example - travel time data in New York City before and after protected bike lanes were installed found improved travel times on streets with new bike lanes.

Agreed, but I think cyclists need to be more aware of the road and more considerate to other users. They don't have the stopping power of vehicles.

Whilst their is undoubtedly weak pathetic men who are more likely to shout abuse at a female cyclist im afraid to say the majority of cyclists will have received aggressive and abusive behaviour. Such behaviour is prevelent and unfortunately is now part of being a cyclist. News media will happily let presenters/ contributor's vemt illogical factually incorrect bile which just feeds into the general belief that cyclists are a nuisance who have less of a right to be on the road . This is aided and abetted by a weak pathetic ill educated Police Farce who continually fail to uphold the law and put forward aggressive behaviour for prosecution, sometimes even blaming the cyclist .

Oh please can we stick to reality these are rare incidents all sensationalized. Men are more likely to get hurt or abused statistically. Yet all we hear is womens safety as its a agenda, clearly society doesnt do things objectivley.
